When Caity + Ryan first reached out to me to do their engagement session, it was just for that. They didn’t have firm plans for their wedding laid out and wanted to make sure they had time to get some photographs taken in the height of fall in CT and I was more than game. We met at Gouveia Vineyard in Wallingford CT (you can see their blog post here) and spent the afternoon literally frolicking around the property, laughing and shouting (with glee!) because we were so, so happy to me creating such amazing images together, it felt so… magical. We kept in touch since their engagement session, and they kept me in the loop for their wedding, eventually settling on a private residence in Mystic CT, right on the water. It was so perfect, and I was beyond honored to be their photographer for their day. Even though Caity and Ryan are younger than most of my clients, they both have this quiet confidence with one another than just transcended age. I felt a deep personal connection to them both and to this day cherish my friendship with them both. Watching them on their wedding day ‘see’ each other (but not entirely) and exchange handwritten letters while holding hands before the ceremony was emotional; their ceremony was so personal to them and their beliefs and I loved that they had a tree planting ceremony that symbolized the start of their new life together and their affinity and connection to nature; and their absolute love of their sweet, energetic dog, Oakley.
This is what weddings are all about to me. Seeing the love my clients and family feel for one another, the pure emotion during the day, balanced with the absolute trust they have for me and my craft, giving me the freedom to create images that transcend the every day. When I was looking back through these images for this post, I was transported back to their beautiful and perfect day.
