Want to learn how to set up and use off camera flash? Learn Carla’s super streamlined and simple approach to the very technical side of photography- lighting with strobes. Yes, it can be overwhelming, and no, there is no magic setting or button for this! Sad, I know! Carla will teach you how to set your camera effectively while using on or off camera flash- while making minimal changes while moving throughout a room! Yes, we all know how annoying it an be once you get your settings and then you move and then they are all wrong…! You don’t need to go out and buy loads of high end crazy gear- HONEST! Learn how to really use what you own and make it work for you before spending loads of cash on more gear!
Carla will tap into these six ways of learning to benefit every attendee, since everyone learns differently:
- seeing tangible photographic examples of every technical topic during the lecture portion
- hands on experience while shooting, one at a time
- watching Carla shoot while explaining what she is seeing and why she is making the choices she is
- watching other attendees shoot
- downloading and seeing your work
- participating in a class critique at the end!
The 411:
- You will go out and shoot on-location in Hartford with Carla and subjects for the day- nothing like some good old fashioned hands on experience!
- Class size is limited to FOUR participants only in order to really get that one on one time and hands on instruction with Carla.
- Really understand your gear and what it can do for you- and more importantly- how to use it!
- Learn to set up and use off camera flashes with remote triggers like pocket wizards or radio poppers
- Then enjoy a home cooked lunch by Dave, Rebecca or Dominique (they are all really good cooks!), and upload your images.
- The class ends with an interactive critique of your images on what worked, what didn’t and how to make it better the next time you are at a shoot

- a flash or flashes
- pocket wizards or radio poppers (if you don’t have these it is OK Carla will share her Pocket Wizard Plus II’s)
- laptop or imac
- card reader
- CF cards
- a good attitude!
