William H. Buckley Farm Wedding with Carla Ten Eyck

When Kat and I FaceTimed for our first meeting, I felt like we could stay and chat all day, despite her business as a Landscape Designer at her company, Staghorn NYC, in full bustle all around her. She was so passionate about what they were planning for their day, and passionate about securing a photographer who she connected with, and we hit it off, instantly! I showed up to their venue in the rolling hills of Ballston Spa, NY and was just filled with excitement for the day. What a gorgeous property! Kat + Michael had their wedding party stay with them in the house on property, and went around the farm for a tour and some farm chores in the morning before getting married later! There were so many high points throughout the day, from their animated and gregarious wedding party, to their Vizsla Penny leaping into their arms as they walked down the aisle! Congratulations, Kat + Michael, I loved spending the day with you both! XO

Some wedding advice from my bride, Kat:

When it comes to planning, my best piece of advice is to book your main vendors as soon as possible – particularly the venue followed by catering, florals, music, and photography. Especially being in the northeast where the wedding industry is sort of crazy, things book up unbelievably quickly. We started looking at venues immediately after our engagement in October of 2016 and there were a number of places that were already entirely booked for all 2017. If you have a specific vision of what you want and specific month or season, you need to lock that into place as soon as you can. Once you get those big 5 settled you can relax a bit and get into more of the details and fun of it all.

Secondly, make sure you find time to eat something at some point during the reception. You need the fuel to get through the night and honestly something to help soak up all the booze. Plus,  you spent all that time and money on planning a gorgeous meal, so you should make sure to enjoy some of it.

And lastly, try to be present and enjoy the planning. Things will go wrong, you’ll get stressed, and you’ll probably have some really frustrating moments, but try to remember what it’s all for – a giant happy party to celebrate you and your number one declaring your love for one another and embarking on life’s journey together.

Creative Partners for the day:

venue: Wm H Buckley Farm, Ballston Spa, NY

flowers: Samantha Nass Floral, Saratoga Springs NY

dress designer: Marchesa

furniture rentals: North Country Vintage , Red Hook NY

The florals by Sam Nass and Kat’s gown from Marchesa were…. whaaaaaaaaaat!

Their first look by the barn was perfection!
