This past winter I had the pleasure of working with one of my new favorite people- Max. Max modeled for an editorial shoot we did on a cold, snowy day in December- and he was so amazing to work with- he took direction incredibly well and could keep a straight face in the midst of all of my yelling and joking- maybe that just means that I am not a funny gal! And maybe not!

So we have been working on beefing up his portfolio because I am not sure if you all know this? But Max here is going to be a model.

And after checking out this shoot I can pretty much guarantee that there will be nary a nay sayer in the lot!! Does that even make sense!?

Abercrombie WHAT

Yeah. What did I tell you?

Max can show his sweet side as well… which to be honest is one of my favorite things about him! He is one of the sweetest guys around- a true gentleman and professional

His eyes are also fun with all of their color changing craziness

I could shoot in this place all the live long day…. !

Can you NOT see him on an Abercrombie bag?? Or billboard??

We loved this change in scene and the light was amazing

The light, color and texture in this room had my head spinning!!

Max can work that serious look, right? He almost looks like he wants to fight me!

Something very sailor-ish about this shot that I really like! Man OVERBOARD!!!

Maybe less of a ‘head shot’ and more of an ‘ab shot’ but hey if you wanna be an Abercrombie Model…… well?? Am I wrong?

vendor spotlight: vantage point films

Let me introduce you all to someone you may have heard of before, but I am going to chat about now for a spell: Tommy Morlock of Vantage Point Films!

I met Tom while shooting one of my favorite clients’ weddings back in May and we have been BFF’s ever since. Not only does Tom have a great eye and deliver a beautiful product- he is an absolute DREAM to shoot with! Now I pride myself on my ability to play well with others, but I dare say Tom had me beat. He adapted the whole working as a team concept and took it to a whole other level- we not only both got our jobs done for Jessica- we had a BLAST doing it!

At every point he was so considerate about not getting in my shot- it was awesome. Him being a bit of a giant also may have helped, since I am super short!

So without further ado……

dana lauren head shots in hartford

Last week I had the absolute pleasure of spending a sunny and wonderful afternoon with Dana Lauren: easily one of the most talented jazz singers in the area. When she met with me to help her plan out her shoot I was excited- she has great energy and an infectious smile and wit- I knew it would be a fun shoot and I was not disappointed! She left me with her CD after our first meeting, and as I popped it into my Mac, I was secretly crossing my fingers that she would be good. And she is TERRIFIC!! I have her in my constant rotation in the studio and every time her music comes on I feel like a proud Momma! And kind of a stalker fan- I KNOW her!!!

And so it should come as no surprise that I would love to rock this rocking gal around Hartford Proper- in the way that I love… utilizing the light as we found it and all of the wonderful parking lots,utility poles and random walls throughout pretty much a one block radius! Hartford is full of great little nooks, you just have to open your eyes to see them all…

So here, I had to bust out my pocket wizards and light her up a bit

I’m all about great props, and suggested a vintage mic, which she readily had a connection for! I think it really added something nice to our shoot

And here comes the sun….. and there goes my sanity, as I went a little crazy

Dana has so many great looks, I couldn’t narrow my favorites down any more than this

I love how I used to SWEAR that I was a predominantly horizontal shooter….. not a one in this session!! Get out of your own head and just shoot what feels right is what I say!

I love how different an image can feel when there is no eye contact versus eye contact

meet my sister tere

This past week I took a vacation week to visit with my oldest sister Tere, who was up from Virginia to catch up with the clan. Tere is an incredible jewelry designer, in addition to be a super cool sister- be sure to check out her site – mypreciousstudio.com and see what she’s all about! She wanted to update her head shots on her site and so she decided to give her little sis a shot.

To cap off our visit we hit up a cemetery in Simsbury and the light was just perfect! Here are our the shots and some behind the scenes to show you where I was and what I got…

There was this really cool gate at the entrance to the cemetery that I just HAD to incorporate….. and so….

Check me and my reflector out. I really wanted to show some of the flowering trees, of which there were really only two and they had haircuts….so I chose to shoot up on the trees

I am SUPER unobtrusive, right? I swear I DO tell people that eventually I may end up in your grill, like seriously IN it, but that you will actually be OK with it! Tere had a bit of a laughing fit, but that’s OK! Laughing is always good!!

jeannine jersey and damon scott head shots in hartford

Last week right after the weather turned in a horrible and cold direction, Mike and I had the thrill of photographing our friend Jeannine Jersey and her co-hort Damon Scott in downtown Hartford. Damon and Jeannine host the afternoon radio show from 3:00 – 7:00 on one of CT’s biggest radio stations, OK maybe it is THE biggest station, 96.5 TIC FM. If you think they are funny on air, try hanging out with them OFF AIR- holy SMOKES I thought Mike and I were going to bust a gut or pee our pants we were laughing so hard!

I have known Jeannine for about maybe almost two years now? She was one of the women in my women’s project ‘See Real Women: Really See Women’ that I photographed back in 2005 / 2006 and we have kept in touch ever since. Jeannine hates having her picture takes, as many of you out there do, but found comfort and laughter with me shooting and has been coming back to me ever since! So finally getting to see her and Damon in action after hearing them on the radio was a real treat and not something that Mike and I will soon forget, that is fo SHO!

Needless to say we had a lot of fun in between actually trying to shoot while laughing- and also despite the freaking sub zero wind chills that were ripping through Hartford! What was up with THAT nonsense?

So, without further a do… I introduce, visually to you, Damon Scott and Jeannine Jersey

Jeannine has such an easy laugh, especially around Damon, he is ridiculous

I will not tell you what they were laughing at here…. but it was FUNNNNNY
