A few weeks back I had the pleasure of photographing my friend and colleague, Richard Esposito- or RE to us photographers. I have known RE for a few years now, and can always count on him for help or to bounce ideas around about work stuff. This is great, but I am also really enjoying getting to know him more as a person, and as a newly married man. His wife Kelley is one of the most gregarious and thoughtful people, and she is adept at bringing out the more sensitive side of my friend….which I am truly getting a kick out of seeing.
As photographers it is not only important for us to showcase our work, but to show people who read our blogs or see our sites what we actually LOOK like- it helps make the connection between our readers. It also, quite literally, puts a face to our voices. The other important part of doing these? Putting US on the other side of the lens…! Talk about a squirrely bunch of people! In my opinion, this will only make you a better photographer because you understand what your clients are feeling, and you can help them because you get it!
These head shots came about when I made an announcement at a PUG meeting a few months back that Mike’s son Aiden was born with a cleft lip and would be needing surgery, soon. We weren’t sure what would be covered by surgery or not, and I was determined to help my friend and his family in any way I could. So I offered to do any and every type of shoot for people, with all proceeds going to help defray the cost of Aiden’s surgery*.
After that meeting, RE rushed over to me to sign up. I have not forgotten that.
*Luckily Aiden’s surgery was covered by Mike’s insurance, and is recovering very nicely- he is a strong little guy!!
Here is what we came back with- and in a new city for me (as of late, anyway) … NEW HAVEN!
I think this one is my favorite
Lots of brick themes throughout our shoot- well, we DID travel thru the Yale campus…what did I expect!
This series was FUN- it tapped into my symmetry issues and really satisfied them!
