Harris and Soulaf are back but this time it’s for their engagement session on a lovely summer afternoon in Greenwich, where Harris is from. The shoot started off as normal, until- I had every photographer’s nightmare happen to me: I completely rolled my right ankle in a hole in the grass, heard it POP (I did, it was yucky) and, while on my way to falling flat on my face going down a HILL, had to decide:
what would hit the ground first – my camera or my face??!!
Seriously. I chose my face until at the very last possible second I pulled out my fly girl cat burglar in the movies moves and caught myself and my gear with a quick flick of my wrist.
And then I promptly burst into tears!
but it hurt. And BAD. I had broken this very ankle before, had heard the pop and just knew it was broken then. Now, luckily by the grace of someone bigger than me, it did not break. And thankfully for the care taker of the property we were on (which we were not trespassing as I usually like to do!) he wrapped my ankle, iced it and that helped!
This all happened in the first ten minutes of my shoot, by the way.
On another note of thanks, Mike was NOT there to capture my literal fall from grace- he would have gotten some crazy good black mail pictures!!
So, this entire shoot was done while I was completely hobbling, barely able to walk and in major pain: (I am patting myself on the back, I know, but I cried and was so not graceful)
Check out Harris and Soulaf in the image below, watching their footing. Like I did.
This little fantasy land is right next door to where their ceremony will be, I am looking forward to revisiting this- with better shoes on of course
This bench was so cool, we had to shoot here
The light only got better and better

Then we hit the beach! I gotta say sand and a fresh ankle injury were not the smartest thing I could have done for myself but it was worth it!
One of my faves!

Harris loves picking up Soulaf and swinging her around
On our way out I saw this and had to snag it- they got like 2,000 bug bites in the span of 2 minutes of standing there but I think it was worth it!!
Harris and Soulaf, thank you SO much for a fun shoot and the crutches!! Mike and I can’t wait for your wedding next month!!
XXOO

that last one? seriously? Good lord. I hope your ankle is feeling better!
Amazing. Sorry you got hurt but I have to say–it was worth it. And this last shot just blew. me. away. Gorgeous.
Last image is a knockout!
carla, you poor thing…I have done the very same thing! But no pop with mine…you rocked this shot like a “POP” star!!!
I can’t believe you continued on despite injury!! Maybe you need a nurse on your staff????? I know one! Good pics btw.
carla — gorgeous! those are some hot heals soulaf has on. what you lack in grace you made up for in pizazz!!
Carla if it makes you feel any better I fell down the church stairs at my last wedding as the bride and groom were exiting.
Amazing photos as always. The last shot! WOW.
Hope your ankle heals quickly!
I have always had nightmares of taking the same fall that you did at a wedding! It is good that it happened at a engagement instead of a wedding! I feel your pain! Feel better and needless to say the images came out beautiful anyway! I would have cried too…spraining and/or breaking ankles definitely HURTS!
So beautiful!
