Katie Slater is one of our amazing Associate Photographers for the studio. She has a sensitive and creative soul that really adds to the way she shoots. To me, personality is one of the most important things a photographer can bring to a shoot- sometimes it is all that separates us from each other as photographers, and Katie stands out in the way that she makes herself blend in with her clients- as if she is one of the family! We love our Katie Slatie!!!! XOXO

What got you interested in photography?
This question is so complex for me. Here’s the abridged version:
A pink LeClic camera. Literally thousands of photos from 5th grade to 9th grade that I still have. National Geographic magazine and related career dreams. A Nikon N50. A ‘D’ in photography junior year of high school. Lack of inspiration and much fear. An Art History degree. Many random years. Children. A Canon point and shoot. Several more random years. An extremely intense desire to go back to photography. The Pioneer Woman. A Nikon DSLR. My beautiful, generous pregnant friend. A flame reignited. Today. Bliss.
My favorite cupcake is…
Any delicious one that I can eat! I’m not picky!
The best part about my wedding was…
listening the the beautiful, funny, and thoughtful wedding vows that my husband wrote for me. Definitely not the part when an inebriated guest vomited on the dinner table.
The first dance song at our wedding was…
At Last by Etta James. We were so concerned with having a traditional first dance song so we picked At Last; however, we will ALWAYS dance to Your in my Heart by Rod Stewart. That one means the most to us…
Describe your family…
The Slater boys are the loves of my life. Not a day goes by that I don’t want to hug my lovely hubby and my two sons. But my mom, dad, sister, brothers, nephews, and all the in-laws add a huge amount of love to my life as well. I am so thankful for each and every one of them.
My favorite place to vacation is…
Any place warm and interesting. Again, I’m not picky! Take me anywhere and I’ll explore and have fun!
When I am driving in my car, I am listening to…
NPR. And the teeny bopper music my kids like…Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, holla!
If I had a full day all to myself and money was no object, I would…
totally not clean my house. Instead I’d do a little shopping, hang with my boys on a beach in Fiji, soak in the setting sun as I sip drinks on a chartered sail boat, eat a wonderful dinner, and climb into my warm cozy bed nice and early.
My favorite thing to order from China House is…
uh, Chinese food?
If I could photograph any person, dead or alive, it would be…
My grandparents who have been married for over 65 years and are getting on years. They retired to a beautiful house at the Cape because the beach was always meaningful to them. I would love to do their portraits on that beach before they go.
If I could only shoot with one lens it would be…
Quite honestly, at this point, I’ll take any professional grade lens that I can get my hands on.
I can…
touch my tongue to my nose. Can you?
I can’t…
wait to go to Fiji and sleep in one of those little huts over the water. Someday.
My motivation in life is…
to be a positive role model for my children by always choosing happiness over sadness and fear, by being passionate about my life, and by offering them the support and love they need to be the best men that they can possibly be.
My top five favorite movies are…
Don’t laugh…ready?
Forrest Gump, Shakespeare in Love, Wanted (I know, right?), Ghost (I know, right?), and Antwone Fisher. And I’ll throw in Top Gun just for ha, has… Dang, I can’t believe that none of these movies has George Clooney in it!!
My favorite television shows are…
Survivor, Lost, and Brothers and Sisters.
If I were to teach something to someone, it would be…
to follow your heart if you don’t already know how.
My favorite pair of shoes is…
my brown Danskos.
My favorite pizza is…
not meatball.
I love…
Lime Tostitos, Guacamole, summer, the Grand Canyon, Big Sur, London, Jack Kerouac, New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, checking the mail, sleeping late, chocolate in my coffee, starfish, the beach, and my life.
