Now some of you who have taken workshops with me know how adamant I am about making posing be the last thing to worry about before you take the picture. Make sure you have your exposure, and know what you want to go for before struggling with the posing- that should just be the icing on the proverbial cake if you know what I mean! We worked a variety of different scenarios of them together, alone, camera aware or not etc. to get a nice variety of shots for our couple!

We all went a little crazy here for these rays of light streaming through the side here…!

Ree-DIC-U-LOUSSS!!!!! I will tell you what Brooke said before modeling today. ‘I am really awkward in front of the camera!’ huh. Really??? Beauty was by the amazing Miss Erin Infantino of Simply Gorgeous by Erin!!!! And wasn’t she???? That lip color was spot! ON! It was a hit and lasted a llllll DAY! Big big thank you to Erin!

My first couple were such troopers! Eric and Amber of RAW Photo Design were more than willing to freeze in the rain for some C10 snuggle time, and I was much obliged! Major props and thanks to my favorite dress shop: The White Dress by the Shore in Clinton CT! The stunning florals were by my homie Tony Palmieri of Datura A Modern Garden!

I was one of the documentarians of the conference so I popped in to see how RAW was doing at their workshop… it was COLD out but she is such a trooper!!!

My Wednesday class featured my favorite stylist of Dana Bartone and Company in Cheshire CT and not just because she is my own personal one! Yes, she is responsible for my pink ‘do!! Miss Catie Bane and her beau, Brandon agreed to come to Concord and be my models for the afternoon, and I was PUMPED! Now, these high school sweethearts have never seen each other dressed up in wedding day attire, so I decided to throw in a first look for the class and show them how I set one up!! How adorable are they!!!

Dress by the White Dress by the Shore, Tux by Bonardi’s (thank you Gina!!!) and Floral by Tony Palmieri of Datura a Modern Garden- beauty by Dana Bartone!

I got choked up when I saw them together and had to take a minute to compose myself, they are both dear friends and it was an emotional moment!!

We segued to the fierce look pretty seamlessly, I have to say!!!

Now, one of the things I love to hate about doing these shoots is the time span between when I do them, and when I can show the images to anyone! It’s a constant struggle for me because I get so excited to share- but with things needing to be exclusive online, and if it’s going to be published it’s an even longer time we need to wait…

Part of the goal of our workshop was to get the attendees published online or in print- and our first gal up at bat- Miss Hildi Todrin of Crane Song Photography got our shoot from Day 1 at the Ocean House up on one of (if not THE) most widely read wedding planning blogs- Style Me Pretty last week! You can check it out HERE!

One of the most important things to teach about doing an editorial shoot, in my opinion, is how to run your team. No man is an island, and it cannot be better illustrated than during a shoot! There are so many moving parts to the day, and getting people to not only do what is needed but to be happy and psyched about doing it is something I think I do a good job at! Enthusiasm is contagious! Just see how happy Diana is in that golf cart! She is psyched!

Watching Tony of Datura A Modern Garden and Candice work that table together is better than watching football! It is like an elegant dance with a lot of sweat and a lot of laughs! And some sharp knives and tape!

Hildi does what she has to DO to get a different perspective for her table shot! Here Miss Ni-CHOLE of Coral Pheasant shows off some props she brought to the shoot!

So this year I was incredibly honored to be one of the shooting workshop leaders! My subject: posing and how to really maximize your time and still get a variety of looks with minimal changes.

Here are my awesome workshop participants! We had peeps from alllll over the globe! From NY to Hawaii and NOLA’s own Fast Eddie!

During my shooting workshops I really enforce the ‘only one person shooting at a time’ rule, so everyone took a knee and got their learn on while each photographer got their chance at bat. Miss Rebecca Hales was documenting the whole thing, and Mike Duval from Lens Pro to Go was there to let my participants try some sweet Nikon Glass! WE LOVE LENS PRO!! Lensprotogo.com baby!!!

These Patterson sisters were close talkers! Beth and Alice are the Syracuse NY PUG leaders! We love the ‘cuse!

Our couple model was none other than my great friends Paul and Krystal- fresh off their wedding in CT which was EPIC and aAWESOME! They are also both epic and awesome and BRAVE. Check out that DIZ-biz-BO rat trap!! Grody!

Let’s Clapp it out for my boy Kenny CLAPP from Baltimore WAY! Kenny was one of the most pleasant surprises our little CT group had for the week we were there! We absorbed Kenny into our group like he was our own and we all miss him terribly!

Miss Rebecca got our group shot and added in one of my favorite moves- the FAKE LAUGH! As I always say ‘IT’S ONLY FAKE FOR A SECOND!’ And yes, I shout it! As I fake laugh. For a second.

So after the class officially wrapped, we stayed back with the sweet glass from Lens Pro to GO and played. Mike was kind enough to show me how to actually use the 45mm tilt shift! And so I got my tilt on! And my shift! blooooooooooooop! OK just kidding, not with this shot! But! Now you can see what it does! Keep scrolling!

One of the things I love about the 45mm tilt shift is that you can get super close! Uncomfortably close!

My buddy and model extraordinarre Max LaManna came along as well to model and it only took seconds to have him disrobe! WHO DAT! More tilt shift loveliness!

We headed on back to our favorite joint- Something Else Cafe for an EGG IN DA HOLE!!!! and grits with no cheese, only buttah n salt!

Because I just can’t stop sometimes…. we kept on going after breakfast! And had a CT shooting party! OK, I was the only one shooting from CT but I just couldn’t stop! All of these were shot with the Nikon 45mm tilt shift.

This bar – The Absinthe- was our JAM! And they made the best Hurricanes!

I am still recovering…! I have a mega blog post on this in the works, but even before I was able to unpack (which I hate to do) Jim Alteri already had an edited video done and loaded on Vimeo!! Jim had come on the second shooting day of our workshop which was warm and filled with sunshine… and documented us in the throes of our workshop. I like to travel, I am not gonna lie. But I will be honest with you, I do not want to be a destination wedding photographer, and I am not ashamed to admit it! I love my third smallest state in the union here- CONNECTICUT!!!! like no other. With its crappy weather (right now anyway) and super small town appeal, I am in heaven every time I come home.

However.

These next two months are going to be some of the craziest months- actually I am smack in the middle of crazy right now- but I ask you not for sympathy I did this all to myself!

….and I am loving every minute of it!!

So tomorrow- I am driving to Rochester / Syracuse NY to speak to the Central NY PUG; I’ll be around for the next two weeks firming stuff up for my Collaborate and Create 2010 4 day workshop at the Ocean House in Watch Hill Rhode Island; I’ll be photographing my alma mater Hartford Public High School on Friday (you can’t rock the pub, you can’t rock the pub SAY WHAT!); I’ll be back in Rhode Island for my awesome clients Katy and Kyle’s e shoot Monday; on Tuesday the 23rd Laurie from Innovative Financial Services will be at my studio in Hartford for a free talk on tax info for photographers- email info@carlateneyck.com if you are interested in coming!

Then Wednesday March 24 is my first Wedding Wednesday- I’m super pumped for that!!

Thursday the 25th Erin & Joe- I have been waiting for this e shoot for like EVER!!! Joe is a good buddy of mine and also a photographer and I can’t tell you how excited I am for this!

Saturday March 27 is the first official wedding of 2010 in New Jersey with Nick and Ging who are also some of the funniest clients I have, my stomach always hurts after hanging out with them!

Then Mexico baby with my family for a week’s vacation!!! I can stop, breathe, tan, eat, drink, cuddle, make sand castles, swim with dolphins, read a book!! …aaahhhh… can’t wait for that!

Back the 5th, shoot on the 6th for Style Me Pretty’s Inspiration to Reality

and then I am GONE from the 7-12…. where you say?

COSTA RICA BABY!!

And then it’s my birthday and I will gain like 5 years instead of just the one…!

This May 16-19 my good friend and very talented Event Planner Candice Dowling-Coppola of Jubilee Events and I will be teaming up to present: Collaborate and Create 2010- a photography and design event!!

To say I am excited is the understatement of the year!! Candice and I have been working together on editorial shoots pretty much every month this past year – in Connecticut to New Orleans and beyond and have some crazy ones in the planning stages that we can’t wait to share with everyone.

We get asked a lot how we put together our shoots- and have since decided that we love what we do so much that we want to share with other photographers and planners how we do what we do!

Our workshop will be at the beautifully restored Ocean House in Watch Hill, Rhode Island right as it opens to the public!! This excites me more than I can even say since I have been secretly obsessed with The Ocean House for about 12 years!! This is where Dave and I wanted to get married but couldn’t because it was closing. So I’m excited, to put it mildly.

Many of you may know my monthly photography workshop series- Ten Eyck Tuesdays- which I do because I love teaching photography so much. Collaborate and Create 2010 takes my love of teaching photography and my love of doing these crazy fun shoots and mixes them up to create something even bigger and more fantastic- my brain can barely process it!!

Add into all of this the whole point- to establish, nurture and maintain amazing vendor relationships with some of the most talented professionals in the wedding industry.
