The weather pulled a fast one on us- the morning was filled with puffy clouds and blue skies- a typical summer’s day in the mountains of Vermont. We thought we were all set for the day, until literally right as Yvonne and Kevin were about to burst through the church doors as a married couple- BAM! the rain came down, and boy did it! No matter! We took a breather and did some shots in the church while we waited, and then just like we planned, it stopped and we were on our way! There was so much color, love, emotion and pure beauty to photograph, this post is just a fraction of my favorite images from their day!

Their ceremony was right across the street from the Equinox Hotel, so the ladies just walked on over when it was time! One of my favorite shots was of Yvonne and her Dad right before they turned the corner to walk down the aisle that Mike Romano caught!

These vintage peach umbrellas were PERFECT and boy did they come in handy!!

The rain really added something nice to their wedding with the mist and the droplets on the florals!

Jazzy snagged an AWESOME shot of Yvonne and Kevin coming in on the boat… I love it!!

A sunny day in October brought us to the Mansion at Bald Hill for the wedding of Brooke and Todd. It was a relaxed day full of sunshine, lots of laughter and plenty of tears… yes, we ALL cried thanks to Brooke’s sweetheart of a Dad, Harvey! My amazing second shooter for the day was my good friend Danielle Fuller, who laughed and cried with everyone all day as well!!

We were psyched to work alongside my main gal Catie Bane of Dana Bartone and Company on beauty!

There was not a dry eye in the room when Brooke saw her Dad!!

Since they did a first look we had plenty of time for relaxed portraits before their ceremony.

While I was shooting Brooke and Todd, Danielle got some great shots of the bridal party!

This tree was the perfect spot for our portraits!

Brooke’s flowers were done by students at Killingly High School!

They had their Ketubah signing before the ceremony, and it was so emotional. Their rabbi asked each person in the room to come up and quietly tell Brooke and Todd what they wish for them and their marriage… very sweet and so personal!

Seconds before the ceremony their Rabbi told me that he was going to have everyone stand up and come closer, he thought that they would be too far away and wanted the ceremony to be more intimate. Lucklily he also said I could go where I needed to in order to get whatever shots I needed…!

The best thing about Danielle being a seasoned photographer is that she had no idea that the format would be so different and knew we would need a photographer planted firmly in the middle to get the type of shot she got of the rings directly below. I was so thankful and able to roam around and squeeze into little spots to catch what I could!

This was one of the most emotional ceremonies I have witnessed. I loved when the rabbi asked everyone to reach forward and touch Brooke and Tood, and if they couldn’t reach them, they were to touch the person in front of them. Then everyone was connected.

Their cake was my the amazing Mozzicato’s of Hartford and their band was The Cartells!

Hartford, CT has some of the very best places to photograph people in love. From City Hall, to the Old State House, to the Society Room, and then on to Bushnell Park and the Capitol Building there is just so much pretty going on! How lucky were we when Kaitlin and James (a history buff!) wanted to go absolutely everywhere around Hartford for photographs. We had a ton of time throughout the wedding day but took even more time a couple weeks after their wedding to make more pretty pictures in and around Hartford. Have a look! We started at the Residence Inn by Marriott – I am in utter love with the gigantic windows in these rooms. Absolutely unbelievably stunning.

Catie Bane from Dana Bartone and Co. works her makeup and hair magic! I heart the girls from Dana Bartone and Co. You should too!

 Alison Lassiter and our trusty manly assistant for the day, Gary, spent a little time with the guys while I hung with the girls!

 First look in Hartford’s amazing City Hall! Woo hoo! See that colorful mural back there? Carla’s talented dad painted that!

 Kaitlin has the most amazingly stunning eyes. Right!?!

 We headed over the the Old State House in Hartford, CT for some more photos and the all important CEREMONY!!

 WEDDING TIME!

 So then we head over to the Society Room in Hartford! That really is one of the most beautiful reception venues in Hartford. Amazing! I just want to take a moment here to state how amazing Alison is. It’s a long story but what it boils down to is that it pays to have two photographers at your wedding. It pays to be a part of a supportive, amazing and responsive group of photographers. I would never have realized that if it weren’t for this day. Alison picked up some major slack and shined. She was amazing. Thank you Alison. Your hard work did and does not go unnoticed! Also a huge thank you to Amanda Herzberger and Anthony DeCarlo. I owe you one! Or maybe even two!!!!

While 2011 wasn’t my most prolific year, it was my most rewarding yet.  When I was forced to book fewer weddings because of increasing demands from my other career, my growing family and a new home (yet very OLD – think Tom Hanks and The Money Pit), I was down-and-out and felt like I had been benched.  Like I would be left in the dust by this fast paced and constantly changing industry.  How would I stay motivated?  How could I stay fresh?

What I failed to realize though, is that for the first time I would be able to stop and smell the roses.  For the first time in six years of shooting weddings, I wasn’t overwhelmed by double-headers, late nights editing, and trying to make enough time for the other priorities in my life.  And with more time for my other roles as a husband and a father, I found even more satisfaction from my photography.  I never ran into that middle of the season creative wall that every photographer dreads, and I was able to devote more time to getting to know my clients than ever before.  Thank you to my amazing clients, and thank you to Carla’s irreplaceable studio staff working behind the scenes, for letting me realize this level of satisfaction.

So while my favorites from 2011 might come from a limited quantity, for me, each image means that much more.

That feeling when your heart skips a beat and your breath gets caught in your chest and your eyes get a little watery. That’s the feeling that I love. And honestly, that feeling happened to me more times than I can count in 2011. From belly laughs to nervous giggles, from a single tear to tears streaming, from a tiny hug to full on bear hugs, and from perfect sunny days to catastrophic unseasonal snow storms, 2011 was literally the best wedding season yet. I am so thankful to my wonderful couples for putting their faith and trust in me to photograph their weddings. I love you guys! xo

Along with her mom and sister, Stacy got ready at the Silas W. Robbins House in Wethersfield, CT. Holy smokes – what a gorgeous place to get ready!!

Stacy did her own makeup and did a fabulous job! Katie Bane from Dana Bartone and Co. did an ammmmaaaazing job on Stacy’s hair. Such a work of art!

This little guy was killing me. I just wanted to hug him. He was so distraught. But funny at the same time.

A million, trillion thanks to Sandra Costello who lent Stacy and Ken her rad red tandem bicycle for their wedding day. Stacy and Ken wanted to incorporate their bikes but couldn’t feasibly do it as they were traveling up her from the city so Sandra was generous enough to let them use hers. They were super sports and actually got on and rode away! So cute!! Best part of the day!
