essex ct steam train engagement session

Quite a while back now, Jasmine and I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Trisha and Aaron’s train-themed engagement session. I have some clients who want to do something a little out of the norm for their shoot and I am always more than happy to oblige! Their wedding had a train theme, since they met on a train- so we thought it only fitting to work a train theme into their engagement shoot! And what a shoot we had… I can’t tell you how worked up we all got! Everything was perfect, Tricia and Aaron and how eager and willing they were to trust all that we wanted to do; their outfits! oh my god!! the light! the train itself! The colors! yeah. It was… overwhelming. We experienced the ‘runner’s high’ of shooting… it was, simply put. Absolutely. Amazing.

Jazzy got this great shot on the left, and I got the shot of Aaron on the right- love the pairing here!

Getting this shot was challenging to get as the car was moving in and out of dappled light, I was bouncing around, literally and figuratively, and wanted to show the feeling of the train moving along!

These two. THESE. TWO.!!! They can do no wrong!

Yes. The train was moving while I got this- it was challenging and fun and exhilarating!

So here we are on the train. Shooting. rocking the parlor car. Then the conductor says ‘you know we are headed to pick up a TON of people at the boat right? And there is a really cool empty red car right here…’ um. ok!!

Then we got off the train? And what what look at this light!!!! As if I had a single ounce of more energy left in me?!

Our friendly conductor was much obliged to be in our shot!

westbrook engagement session

Emily and Steve are super sweet. So are their dogs, Murray and Shadow. Jazz and I took a drive down to Westbrook to spend the day on the beach with these guys, and boy was it ever fun! Emily and Steve were comfortable right off the bat, and we laughed our way all over the beach. We also headed over to Old Lyme to shoot there for a bit. We couldn’t have done it without Emily’s sister, the dog wrangler. Those dogs totally wanted to take a dive. Take a peek at our windy adventure!

Yale University engagement session

Sometimes being a photographer living in CT leads to some things…one being that lots of people looooove to shoot around Yale! It is always a fun day and there are so many nooks and crannies to see and learn about each and every time I go… but this time was different. My client Nicole used to give tours of Yale! So I got the super secret amazing tour of Yale, with access to places most others don’t ever get to see… and it was sooooooo coooooool..!!!!! I had to be quiet so many times (it was hard) and it was so sweet to see Nicole and Travis walk down memory lane by going through the campus together.

Each dorm courtyard (which are private and not open to the general public) feature cool things like hammocks and swings, it was like straight out of a movie!

It was like the courtyard hall of fame!! As far as the eye can see!

One dorm has gnomes as their mascot and they are hidden all over the courtyard…

One of my favorite stories was about the windows and the ‘y’s that were made in the panes on purpose…! There was WAY more of a story but I have a terrible memory and so that is all you get!

So many stories lie in the architecture as well… little men all curled up with a book!

Nicole and Travis I had such a grew time getting to know both you and the Yale campus and can’t wait for your wedding!!

downtown hartford holiday engagement session

Right before Christmas Julie and I braved the chilly- all-of-a-sudden-it’s-winter weather and photographed my 2012 spring (yay!) clients Marissa and Ryan! We opted for downtown Hartford and took advantage of the lights and open sky that Bushnell Park offer! We had a great time while trying to stay warm- take a look!

The Pump House Gallery made quite a great backdrop!

Marissa and Ryan, thanks for braving the cold yet keeping it hot all at the same time!! We can’t wait for your (warmer) wedding this May!!

watch hill rhode island engagement session

what better way to spend a sunny, blustery winter afternoon than on the beach with some pretty brave clients?! The best part? We were completely alone! To have this amazing stretch of beach all to ourselves was such a special treat and a welcome change of scene from all of the typical dead-ness that takes over New England in the winter. It was a crisp day with some pretty clouds- Callie and Miles and I had a great time and enjoyed the break from the holiday craziness!

The light was hitting us at just the right angle for our whole shoot, I couldn’t have been happier! It looks warm, doesn’t it?

I felt like I was on a movie set with this crazy light here!

That this is so close to where I live makes me feel so lucky! Callie and Miles really had a good time as well, I was happy to show them our private beach for the day!

Seriously. My favorite beach. Love the sound of these waves crashing, and how clear the waves are…. and that it’s right by The Ocean House... hands down one of my favorite getaway spots in New England!!

Yep. They are totally laughing at what a fool I looked like shooting them, half hanging over the wall with my legs in the air!

Callie and Miles- this was such fun!! Thank you both for braving the cold- let’s be sure to remember how cold we were when we are sweatin’ to the oldies in August!!

golden lamb buttery engagement session

These two. I don’t even KNOW!! These two crazies- aka Dawn and Justin- are two of my most favorite people on the planet. I met them almost 4 years ago? at a wedding where Justin was a groomsman and Dawn was his super fun girlfriend. As it turns out, Dawn is an art director for a big company based in Boston…and was looking for a photographer and viola! A beautiful relationship was formed! We have worked together since then, traveling the country to San Francisco and Sonoma each fall and have gotten to know each other really well. We laugh, all the time- like so hard it’s exercise! I got to know Justin aka Ferris Bueller even better during these work trips and then when I got to bring Dave out this September it was the proverbial icing on the cake that is my life to have all four of us ripping through poor old San Francisco like a pack of crazies! Can I just give you this visual: after a night at an amazing outdoor Italian restaurant tucked away in this alley drinking some crazy cocktails and eating some tasty food we headed back to the Top o’ the Mark- which as the name implies is at the TOP of the hills of San Francisco… much to my dismay! So I am breathing all heavy laboring through the streets and Miss Dawn? RUNS up the steepest hill in her heels chanting the Rocky song, gets to the top and double fist pumps. Who has energy like that? Well, in my brain, I totally do.

In any even, these two are my friends and I just love them to pieces! To say I can’t wait for their wedding this winter is an understatement!! So here we are at one of my very favorite places to shoot and say- The Golden Lamb Buttery! Doesn’t the name just make you hungry?? This place is my JAM not only to shoot at but to eat at- looking for a different date night?? GO! It was windy on this fine fall day, so we were all bundled up for the shoot- which included another very favorite person -VIP- Miss Anna Brigs!!

essex ct fall engagement session

During our super short fall season here in New England I had the pleasure of photographing Stefanie and Shaun in my new favorite CT town.. Essex! It is like a step back into a time machine there, it’s so super quaint and typical New England- there is nothing not to love about this town. My clients Stefanie and Shaun brought their A game and dressed the part for our shoot- how cute are they!! We were lucky enough to have met the owners of The Griswold Inn who also happen to own this amazing car… and they let us use it for our shoot- how super generous are they?? I LOVE their Inn, the restaurant has the most amazing food too I highly recommend going there for a date night, you will not be disappointed! Be sure to check out their amazing wine bar with the coolest background ever…. Big thanks to my assistant and side kick for the day Miss Renee Descoutures!!

They were so quick with a laugh, it made my job soooooo easy!!

new york city engagement session

Earlier this fall, Jazzy and I had the pleasure of meeting Mandy and Reid in NYC. Mandy and Reid are two of the funniest people that I have ever met, and the fact that they found us equally as amusing…well, it was a match made in heaven. We walked around the city, laughed, had a crazy cab ride, and made a scene hootin’ and hollerin’ about how awesome the high line is.

C’mon, how pretty is Mandy? So pretty. And that dress? Love.

As we were walking by this waffle truck, I asked Mandy and Reid to “re-enact” the couple on the side. They obliged. Please pay special attention to the girl inside the truck…hilarious.

west end of hartford fall engagement session

A few weeks back I had the pleasure of photographing two long time original gangsters of the West End of Hartford, Addy and Will. They wanted to focus on their personal studio work spaces as our location, since those spaces really represent who they both are. What a great way to get to know the two of them and really see who they both are in their element. An added bonus, we were smack in the middle of my neighborhood! We started off at Addy’s studio space by Real Art Ways in Hartford. Addy runs Hartford Prints! and creates some pretty sweet Hartford Art!

The type is a big part of what Addy does, and it was a nice visual as well…!

Even the hallways of her studio space proved to be a sweet little spot to photograph.

We then segued over to Will’s space, on Gillette Street in Hartford. What a gem of a house… it had so many cool architectural details!

Who knew shooting in a basement could be so much fun??

rebecca and stephen’s coventry engagement session

Just a few short weeks before Alfred blanketed the Connecitcut landscape with snow, Rebecca and Stephen treated me to a visit to their family’s campground in rural Coventry. Complete with a rustic cabin, a small pond and a grassy meadow, this location had real country charm and was the ideal setting for their autumn engagement photos. Congratulations Rebecca and Stephen!
